After speculations and deliberations that have been going on for quite some time, it was ghar wapsi for stalwart tribal leader Dr Kirodilal Meena, who joined the BJP on Monday after a gap of ten years. Meena, a legislator from the National People's Party (NPP), joined the BJP with two other legislators of NPP; his wife Golma Devi and Geeta Verma. The move is being said to be a merger of NPP into BJP.

BJP announced that it will be sending Meena to Rajya Sabha on one of the three seats that are due to go to polls. He will be filing his nomination on Monday. along with other two BJP candidates; Bhupendra Yadav and Madan Lal Saini.

Meena was inducted into BJP by chief minister Vasundhara Raje at the state BJP office. Party chief Ashok Parnami and senior party leaders and public representatives were present on the occasion. His supporters were present in large numbers and were chanting slogans for him.

On the occasion, Meena said, "jahaaj ka panchi jahaaj par laut aaya" (the bird from the ship is back on the ship). "It is my ghar wapsi (homecoming). My vanvaas (exile) has ended," said Meena. "I, too, may have made mistakes, I apologise to Vasundhara Raje if I have hurt her with my utterances over the last ten years," said Meena. "I will work hard with the party to ensure a win in the assembly elections," he added.

A visibly emotional chief minister Vasundhara Raje, said, "My able brother is back into the party fold. We feel strengthened by his presence and soon we will tour the state together to take on the Congress."

Incidentally, Meena, a minister in the Raje cabinet during her first tenure as chief minister, left BJP in 2008 due to differences with Raje.

Meena's joining BJP has dashed all hopes of a possible third front in Rajasthan. Meena, along with independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal and disgruntled BJP MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari, had been touring the state and garnering public support. They had hoped to consolidate Tribal, Jat and Brahmin communities in their favour and create a third front; something that has never existed in Rajasthan politics.
