Passenger train connectivity from the metropolis to destinations in North Bengal and Assam remained suspended for the fifth day today due to prevailing flood situation in the region.

"All passenger train services remain cancelled for today also owing to the flood situation," Eastern Railway spokesman R N Mahapatra said here.

Railway tracks at different places in Bihar, West Bengal and Assam have been submerged by flood water for the past several days, affecting rail connectivity of the North Eastern states and north Bengal with the rest of the country.

To clear extra rush of passengers, four pairs of special trains are being run between Sealdah and Malda Town from today, with one train leaving Sealdah and Malda stations on four consecutive days, the ER spokesman said.
