[1] The Delhi Assembly election held in December last year didn't give a clear majority to any party. While the Congress got wiped out after three terms in power by bagging only eight seats, the BJP managed to secure 31 seats. The newly formed Aam Admi Party (AAP) made a stunning debut with 28 seats.

[2] Initially no party was keen to form the government, but after conducting a referendum, AAP decided to take outside support from Congress to form the government.

[3] Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi, but resigned after a mere 49 days when he failed to introduce the Jan Lokpal Bill in the floor of the Assembly.

[4] Thereafter, AAP wanted the Assembly to be dissolved, however Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung decided to keep the Assembly in suspended animation and recommended President's rule in the state.

[5] This prompted AAP to move the Supreme Court, challenging the decision to impose President's rule in Delhi on the recommendation of the Lieutenant Governor.

[6] Meanwhile, when results of the Lok Sabha Elections were declared in May 2014, the BJP had swept all seven seats in Delhi.

[7] Post their debacle in the general elections, AAP resumed their effort to form a government in Delhi but Congress refused to support them. Kejriwal went on to apologise to the people of Delhi for quitting after 49 days.

[8] Thereafter, the Supreme Court referred AAP's petition for dissolution of government to a constitutional bench.

[9] Now, sources indicate that BJP is looking to form the government and is in touch with six of the eight Congress MLAs.
