A top ISIS leader who was responsible for getting recruits from India has been killed in Syria by a US drone strike, reports The Times of India

According to the report, Mohammad Shafi Armar was killed a few days back and several government sources have confirmed the news to the publication, though a formal announcement is yet to be made.

According to reports, Shafi had recruited at least 30 young men for ISIS. Shafi and his brother Sultan Armar (who was head of IS in India and was killed last year) hail from Bhatkal in Karnataka and started their 'career' in terror activity with Indian Mujahideen (IM). They reportedly had a fallout with the infamous Bhatkal brothers and then decided to float their outfit Ansar-ul-Tauhid (AuT). Recently, Shafi, who is also known as Yousuf, had started a new group called Junud al Khalifa-e-Hind under the umbrella of ISIS.

26-year old Shafi was reportedly planning to form an IS unit in every state of the country and was in touch with close to 600-700 youngsters via social media in order to indoctrinate and recruit the truly motivated ones.

In the last few months, several ISIS sympathisers have been hauled up by security agencies and Shafi's name has reportedly propped up during interrogation as a key person in the entire terror chain. If he is dead, as the report claims, it will be a big relief to Indian security agencies.
