In a run time of roughly two years, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has truly gone through a rollercoaster ride. From being a party with little mass base banking on the nostalgia of the India Against Corruption movement, to gaining power in Delhi, and subsequently falling out of favour with the common people, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has come full circle.

In the process, AAP has lost many top leaders from its rank, with MS Dhir being the latest person to jump ship. Here are the top 5 leaders who left the party which blossomed from the India Against Corruption movement.

Shazia Ilmi

Considered to be one of the most erudite leaders of AAP, this journalist-turned-politician ran into several controversies in her brief stint with AAP. She was the TV face of AAP, but never quite gelled with other party leaders. She finally left the party in May this year, alleging that most decisions were being taken by a select few, not keeping other leaders of AAP in confidence.

Captain Gopinath

Captain Gopinath, pioneer of low-cost airlines in India, left AAP shortly after the Lok Sabha elections, giving a huge jolt to the party. He left the party as he felt the Kejriwal-led AAP had lost focus. However, he said that he still has a lot of respect for the anti-corruption crusader.

Vinod Kumar Binny

Technically, Vinod Kumar Binny was expelled from the party, but that was because he reportedly raised a voice against the top leadership. Binny accused the party of betraying the people and was subsequently expelled. He is tipped to contest against Arvind Kejriwal on a BJP ticket in the upcoming Delhi elections.

SP Udayakumar

Noted anti-nuclear movement activist SP Udayakumar left AAP in October this year. The reason for his departure was that he felt that the party was not sufficiently paying heed to the people and issues relating to Tamil Nadu. Udayakumar had only joined the party in March this year, and contested the Lok Sabha elections, albeit unsuccessfully. His departure was a huge blow for the party, especially in its goal to expand south of the Vindhyas.

MS Dhir

The former AAP legislator and speaker of Delhi Assembly, MS Dhir also left the party on Friday. He said that the former Delhi chief minister who ruled the state for 49 days, doesn't deserve a second chance and may run away in 29 days!

Apart from this, there have been several cases of infighting within the top leadership of AAP. Yogendra Yadav's leaked letter to the AAP leadership and subsequent reply from Manish Sisodia showed that all is not well with the new kid on the block in India's political firmament.
