Top 20 films themed on Swachh Bharat to be felicitated on Gandhi Jayanti

Sources say the films will be shown on government platforms, theaters to create awarenes.

As the central government gears up to celebrate the second year of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 2, it has organised a first-of-its-kind film festival to highlight its flagship scheme, among the many other communication strategies.

Organised by the National Film Development Corporation (NDFC), under the Information and Broadcasting ministry, the open-to-all Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival has received over 4,346 entries Sent from my iPhone

A jury comprising actor Vani Tripathi, filmmaker Gitanjali Rao, and advertising personality Prahlad Kakar, has selected 20 three-minute-long short films of the list.

On October 2, Information and Broadcasting minister Venkaiah Naidu will be felicitating the directors of the top ten films. The winners of the films would be rewarded with cash awards of Rs10 lakh for the first film, Rs5 lakh for the next three films and Rs2lakh for the next six films. The directors of the rest of the ten films would be awarded certificates.
According to sources, the films would be shown across all government platforms.

A senior official from the Information and Broadcasting ministry said that films are also likely to be shown in theaters before the beginning of a movie or during intervals to create awareness on the government's cleanliness programme.

"The key objective of the Festival was to generate awareness, inspire people and include them as stakeholders in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan," a press note from the government stated.

The film festival is among the many participatory ways implemented by the central government to create awareness on the festival. The government is also planning to start competitions between schools and colleges on the theme to spread awareness. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday also said that there should be a special service on cleanliness on TV channels starting Doordarshan.
