Toolkit case: Delhi court to hear Nikita Jacob's anticipatory bail plea on March 9, gives police a week to file reply

Delhi police has to file a reply to the anticipatory bail plea of Nikita Jacob in a week's time. The Patiala House Court on Tuesday, gave time to police to file a response on social activist and lawyer Nikita Jacob's plea in toolkit case.

The court also directed the Delhi Police to hand over a copy of its reply to Nikita Jacob's bail plea, to her counsel.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana allowed the police time till March 9, after the public prosecutor said the agency needed time to file a detailed reply to Jacob's plea.

In the same case, the court is scheduled to hear the anticipatory bail plea of another co-accused, Pune-based engineer Shantanu Muluk on March 9.

During the hearing through video conferencing, senior advocate Rebecca John, appearing for Nikita Jacob, said she wanted to argue on her plea as a stand-alone case. The court said she could argue on March 9.

Nikita Jacob had been granted protection from arrest for three weeks by the Bombay High Court on February 17.

Details of the case

Delhi Police is probing the toolkit case against Nikita Jacob, climate activist Disha Ravi and Shantanu Muluk.

Nikita Jacob's house was raided by the Delhi Police on February 11, after which a non-bailable warrant was issued against her.

Police have accused the three of creating the farmer protest toolkit and sharing it to 'defame India across the globe on the issue of three farm laws'.

Delhi police had earlier claimed that Nikita Jacob has a 'bigger role to play' in the case.

Police claims, Jacob and Disha were allegedly in direct touch with 'pro-Khalistani elements'.
