Like most teenage girls her age, 19-year-old Anita (name changed) dreams of making it big in life and marrying her 20-year-old boyfriend once he turns 21. However, the city-based Maratha teen was in for a rude shock when her parents allegedly threatened to kill both of them if she were to marry her 'lower caste' lover. Anita's boyfriend is poor and comes from the Matang community.

Scared, Anita has approached the Bombay HC and sought protection from her parents. Her petition filed through advocate Nitin Satpute states that her parents have threatened to kill both of them, hence, she eloped from her parental home and is now staying with her boyfriend on her own free will. She plans to marry him once he turns 21.

Satpute said the girl is an adult and she fell in love with him while studying Law.

Anita has alleged that her parents constantly harassed her physically and emotionally. Tired of the torture, she even tried to commit suicide in February. She further claimed that in April, her parents were forcibly taking her to Tamil Nadu, when she ran away and went to her boyfriend's house. The petition stated that the youth and his family is poor but Anita is happy living with them.

Anita has alleged in her petition that her parents have threatened to implicate her and her lover's family in a false case of kidnapping and abduction and so sought round-the-clock police protection.
