With an aim to provide free education to all girls, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday ordered waiving off their school fees in the state-run educational institutions up to higher-secondary level.

"In order to encourage enrolment of the girl students in the schools and to further incentivise their education, sanction is hereby accorded to waive off school fee charged from the girl students in the state-run educational institutions up to higher secondary level with immediate effect," an order issued by Commissioner Secretary of Education Department, Shaleen Kabra said in Jammu.

The step comes as a fulfilment of the announcement in the budget of PDP-BJP government this year.
