To prevent leaks, Indian Navy recruitment to go online in 'near future'

While the leak of an army examination paper and subsequent arrest of 21 people on Sunday has created ripples, the Indian Navy is moving to ensure that recruitment of civilians takes place in an online mode to ensure that the question papers are not leaked.

“We have already taken some steps to prevent leaks. In some of the exams, we are going to make it more stringent in terms of the question papers through security protocols in the system,” said Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, flag officer commanding-in-chief (FoC-in-C) of the Western Naval Command, on Monday. He added that civilian recruitment by the Indian Navy would go online “in the near future.”
The Indian Navy has started online assessments for some non-recruitment related exams.

“For recruitment related (exams) also, we want to move forward to plug any possibility (of leaks),” added Luthra, stating that “we are working on that possibility (of online exams for recruitment).” “We recruit a large number of civilians and the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai has a strength of about 10,000. A number of recruits are done. We are working towards doing recruitment where the exams will be taken online just like JEE and IIT. We are planning online exams,” said Luthra, adding that in cases where the employees or potential employees for lower posts may not be computer literate, the question papers will have to set in a manner that would require less of computer operations.

“We have already worked out some standard operating procedures (SOPs) for this. It is being done in Delhi in consultation with the government and hopefully we should be moving to online examinations for people,” he added, stating that it would also involve I.T agencies.
