TN govt announces Rs 20L solatium to CRPF Jawan killed by Maoists

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday announced a solatium of Rs 20 lakh to the family of CRPF Jawan K Shankar (35), who was killed in a Maoists ambush at Sukma district of Chattisgarh on Saturday.

In a statement here, Palaniswami said Shankar, a native of Kazhumaram village in Thirukovilur zone in Villupuram district, was part of a 12-member CRPF team proceeding to a road construction site in the Bhejji forest area when they were killed in an ambush by Maoists in Chhattisgarh district.

The Chief Minister expressed his sorrow over the death of Shankar, who had sacrificed his life for the country, and announced an assistance of Rs 20 lakh to his family from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief fund. He also expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.

Meanwhile, the body of Shankar was flown to Chennai from Chhatisgarh this morning. His body is being taken to his native village in Villupuram district. He is survived by his wife Ezhilarasi, three-year-old daughter and a year old boy.
