The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday described the arrest of its fact-finding team led by Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi for defying prohibitory orders in West Bengal's Birbhum district as a 'matter of grave concern', saying Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee-led TMC regime does not want the law and order to prevail in the state.

"What is happening in Bengal is a matter of grave concern. This shows that the dispensation of Bengal, the Mamta dispensation does not want the law and order situation to prevail in Bengal." BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI here.

"The people who are spreading terrorism are not being arrested, but the people who have gone to study the law and order situation in West Bengal have been detained and have been arrested," he added.

The members of the BJP's fact-finding team on the attacks on party leaders in Birbhum were earlier in the day arrested and then released on bail. The BJP's fact finding team comprising of party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Members of Parliament Kirti Azad and Udit Raj were detained by the West Bengal Police for attempting to enter Makra village in Birbhum district.

The team, which has been formed by BJP chief Amit Shah, will submit its report to the central leadership after returning to New Delhi.

Earlier this week, three people were killed when the TMC and BJP supporters allegedly clashed in a village in Birbhum district.
