TMC MP Tapas Paul, who had been arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the Rose Valley chit fund scam, was granted bail on Thursday by Orissa High Court. Paul, who was arrested on December 30, 2016, was granted bail against a personal bond of Rs 1 crore and two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each.

Paul’s lawyer applied for his bail on medical grounds. He was not well since he had been arrested after CBI officials interrogated him for about four hours at the CBI office at Salt Lake in Kolkata. After his arrest, he was admitted at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. It was alleged that he took money regularly from the company and used to get them favours in return.  Several other bail pleas on behalf of the actor-turned politician had been turned down by the court earlier.

The court has also directed that Paul would submit his passport at the court and have to cooperate with investigators. Sources said that the paperwork would be completed on Friday and after that he can walk out of CBI custody.
