On Friday, Ansari visited the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) headquarters and met the party state president Somen Mitra to inform him about his wish to switch to the Congress.
Former BJP minority cell president of West Bengal Shakil Ansari who had defected to the Trinamool Congress and was appointed the vice-president of the minority cell of the party, now finds the situation 'suffocating' within the party and is likely to switch to the Congress. Sources said that he had called up Congress state president for an appointment.
On Friday, Ansari visited the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) headquarters and met the party state president Somen Mitra to inform him about his wish to switch to the Congress.
"Two years and seven months ago I had resigned from the BJP as the minority morcha president because it was communal and joined TMC only to realise that most of the members here are interested in self-service and not social service. I feel suffocated here everyday. I want to work for the community and I get no support at all," he told DNA.
Asked about what transpired in the meeting between him and Mitra he said that he had placed his cards face up on the table and it was now up to the party to decide. "I have told him about the posts I have held and asked him to give me an opportunity to work in the party and judge my performance," he said.
He said that many workers of TMC were ready to switch their allegiance to Congress. "People are ill-treated by TMC members. We are called neo Trinamool members who have come over because we have nowhere to go. Even at extended core committee meetings I am not invited," he rued.
Mitra said that he had not yet decided if Ansari would be inducted in the party. "He has met me and told me about his intentions. I have to discuss the matter with my colleagues and then decide what needs to be done," he said.
