As BJP national president Amit Shah tore into the Mamata Banerjee's TMC in Kolkata, leaders of the ruling party in West Bengal staged a 'Dhikkar Michhil' – protest rally – against the NRC.

TMC protests were seen in North Dinajpore, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Burdwan and Bankura districts. Party workers carried flexes banners that read 'Black Day being observed to protest citizenship taken away from Assam's citizens'; 'BJP go back'; and 'Du hazar unish, BJP finish' (BJP will be finished in 2019).

The drama didn't stop there. At Rishra in Hooghly, a few TMC supporters had a tonsure.

TMC spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Derek O' Brien said they will take legal action against Shah if he doesn't apologise. "He has insulted the culture of Bengal. He has alleged that cable televisions have been blacked out at the behest of Mamata Banerjee but there had not been any blackout."
