With Christmas around the corner, how can the delicious cookies and baked goodies be far behind? Iamin caught up with Ann Dias, a Dadar resident who is famous for the Christmas treats she churns out in her kitchen. The 63-year-old has been making traditional Christmas delights since 1982. What started off as a passion, soon took an entrepreneurial turn, as Dias began selling her home-made sweets during the festive season. A big hit among residents, the word of her undertaking spread far and wide, making her a known name in the local circuit.

People with sweet-tooths in Mumbai can head to a famous bakery in Bandra’s Hill Road area.J. Hearsch Bakery has been one of the favourites among other sweer shops, during festive season, especially around Christmas.This year, the bakery is serving special items like Marzipan, milk cream, pink ice, walnut fudge, Christmas cupcakes, Christmas fruit and nut chocolate cake, and Snowman Lollipop. The range starts from Rs 130, which will hardly burn any hole in your pockets. Melvin D'sa who runs the bakery, said, “Like every year this time too we have started selling Christmas items from this week. I hope the sales increase this year.”

American Express Bakery in Bandra's Hill Road 

American Express Bakery in Bandra's Hill Road, a favourite among pastry lovers was started a hundred years ago by a goan in Byculla. The bakery has entered the Christmas mode and has chalked out a schedule of special breads and items to be sold on particular days till December 25. These items include steak and kidney pie start, bread basket, Portuguese bread, Dundee Start and the most popular one - Stollen.

Savour popular Goan Baath Cake this festive season

 

The Baath Cake is typically a Goan dessert speciality that is made during Christmas and Easter. It is usually prepared as a part of the ‘Kuswar’ or set of goodies prepared specifically for the festive season by the Goan Catholic community. Its primary ingredients are semolina and coconut— both desiccated and fresh coconut can be used, but the dish must be consumed within three days if the latter is used. Since it is generally a soft, crumbly and moist cake, one needs to be careful about not over-baking it as it then, tends to become too dry.
