Acting on information received from active members of Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), officials of the Special Task Force (STF) police on Friday recovered a huge cache of explosives from Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

“We have recovered 200 kg of ammonium nitrate from Dhulian in Murshidabad,” said Murlidhar Sharma, deputy commissioner (Special Task Force) of the Kolkata Police.

STF officials are still hunting for other members or links to the banned terror outfit. On January 31, STF had arrested two JMB activists – Md Paigamber Sk (24) and Jamirul Sk (31) from Murshidabad and Darjeeling, respectively. About 50 kg of ammonium nitrate had been recovered from the duo then.

Sources said that Paigambar, a resident of Murshidabad had earlier been interrogated by the cops in relation to the Khagragarh blast case. “Preliminary investigation reveals that both of them were part of group involved in keeping IED as well as low intensity blast at Bodh Gaya in Bihar on January 19,” Sharma said.

The blast had taken place while Dalai Lama’s discourse was on. A low intensity explosive kept inside a flask in the kitchen within the Mahabodhi Temple complex of Bodh Gaya had exploded and two more such flasks were recovered from within the temple complex. STF has informed National Investigating Agency (NIA) of the arrests as the NIA is probing the temple blast.

Other than the explosives, a laptop and other materials required to make explosives were also recovered from them.
