Three of a family killed for allegedly practising witchcraft

Three of a family, including a woman, have been allegedly killed on the suspicion of practising witchcraft and their bodies recovered today in Assam's Nagaon district, police said.

The bodies of the two brothers and the wife of one of them, missing since last week, was recovered from a pit dug to bury them in Ranglur Pukhuribasti.

The son of the missing couple had gone to neighbouring Karbi Anglong and on his return found his parents and uncle missing from home following which he filed a complaint with the police.

The police had taken 20 persons into custody and based on the interrogation of some, dug the pit in the nearby field and recovered the bodies today.

The dead persons have been identified as Hangra Bey, Sombar Bey and Engley Rongpharti.

The police suspect that the trio were killed for allegedly practising witchcraft and further investigations were on.
