A teenager son of a property dealer was kidnapped for ransom and later murdered in Bihar's capital here on Friday. The Class IX student was among the three minors killed in Bihar in the last 24 hours, prompting the Opposition to corner the Nitish Kumar led NDA government over "deteriorating law and order in the state".

According to a Bihar police officer, 16-year-old Raunak was missing from home since Thursday. "He was picked up by his abductors while returning from school and a call demanding Rs 25 lakh ransom for his release had been made to his parents. They expressed inability to meet the demand and lodged a complaint with the police," he said.

On Friday, Raunak's body was recovered from a closed shop in Patna's downtown Kumhrar locality. A neighbour Vicky has been held in connection with the murder and sources said he had admitted to his crime.

Another minor whose body was recovered by the police on Friday was seven-year-old Veer Kumar Singh, son of a West Champaran farmer Ramdeo Singh. "He was a kindergarten student. His body was found in a water tank and prima facie it seems he was also assaulted," the officer said.

In Kaimur district, police found the body of a five-year-old, Adarsh, who was missing since January 10. "His body was found in a well and has been sent for postmortem. Further investigation is underway," said a senior police officer in Kaimur district.

The Opposition criticised the government for failing to check the kidnapping and murders. "It is not jungle raj, but a rule of terror by criminals; and the CM and his deputy are shamelessly silent on it," said Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar legislative assembly.

The Congress leaders too criticised the "lawlessness" in the state alleging that not a day passed without incidents of murder, loot, rape or kidnapping making headlines in the last few months.
