Six killed, 11 injured in explosion near Army depot in Maharashtra's Wardha

At least three people were killed and several others were injured in an explosion near Army depot in Pulgaon area of Wardha district in Maharashtra.

At least six people were killed and 11 others were injured in an explosion near Army depot in Pulgaon area of Wardha district in Maharashtra.

The explosion took place around 7 am while unloading one of the ammunition boxes. The incident took place in an open land.

Around 10 to 15 contract labourers were at the site when the incident occurred, Wardha's Additional Superintendent of Police Nikhil Pingle said.

The demolition ground at the Central Ammunition Depot at Pulgaon in the district was given to Ammunition Factory, Khamaria, for demolition activities, he said.

The explosion created a panic situation among the people residing in the area. A worker of the ordinance factory and civilians are among those killed.

The injured were admitted to a hospital in the nearby Savangi village.

Soon after the mishap, the officials of ordnance factory, Khamaria and ordnance factory Chandrapur have rushed to the blast site. Defence officials also stated that as the ordnance factory, Chandrapur is closer to CMD, Pulgaon, the staffers expert in handling such situation have been asked to rushed to the site. 

This is not the first blast at the CMD, Pulgaon. In the year 2016, the explosion at a godown full of anti-tank mines had claimed lives of 18 soldiers 

CMD, Pulgaon is country's largest ammunition depot and it is considered to be the second largest ammunition depot in Asia.
