Incessant rainfall in Meghalaya has caused flood in low lying areas of the state, with many rivers flowing above the danger level, officials said today.

Three persons were killed and two others injured when an old Eucalyptus tree at the Raj Bhavan premises collapsed on top of a taxi here, police said.
The tree came crashing down pulling along with it an electric post, telecom cables, and crushed four vehicles, they said.
"Three persons died on the spot and two others suffered minor injuries," Marak said.
Rescue teams have been put on service to clear the debris even as traffic was diverted, he said, as a result of which there was massing traffic jam across the state capital.
The police said the tree collapsed because of the incessant rainfall making the soil loose even as there were reports of minor landslips across the district.
Meanwhile, over one hundred families have been asked to move to higher grounds in South Garo Hills district, while hundred others in West Garo Hills district have been evacuated after incessant rainfall caused floods in the low lying areas, officials said.
South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner S Marak said, We have been distributing relief to families affected by the flood. Half of the town, including schools and market area, is under floodwater.
She said the situation was very bad and help was being extended to the affected families.
The venue for Independence Day celebration at Baghmara was also submerged under water, while road communication has been disrupted between Baghmara and Tura due to flooding at Dimapara area, about 50 kms from Tura in West Garo Hills, the official said.
Police and BSF teams were pressed into rescuing several people trapped in their houses, SP Abraham Sangma said.
The mighty Simsang river is flowing above danger level in different parts of South Garo Hills.
The other affected areas in South Garo Hills are Karukol, Dimapara and Gasuapara areas. Police and BSF personnel rescued several people stranded in their houses this morning, officials said.
In West Garo Hills district, district Deputy Commissioner P Bakshi said four relief camps were set up in Dalu area where about 100 families have taken shelter.
Relief materials including bottled water and food are being provided to victims even as water levels of the Bugai river is receding, he said.
The plain belt of the district has, however, remained unaffected till now though the waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributary --Jinjiram river, are reported to be steadily increasing.
In South West Garo Hills district, road links were disrupted due to landslides.
"Paddy field in different areas has come under flood water. We are taking stock of the situation. All officials of the district are monitoring the situation," district Deputy Commissioner C V Diengdoh said.
