The MRA Marg police on Saturday arrested three persons, including a couple, for allegedly kidnapping a three-year old girl from New Delhi, last month. The police are investigating whether the accused were running any begging racket.

The arrested people have been identified as Suman Patel, 45, Ginni Pohar, 20, and Kajal Pohar, 19.
On July 24, the MRA Marg police was communicated by the control room that information had been received by them that Suman Patel, a resident of Hutatma Chowk in Fort, has a three-year old girl with her, who wasn't hers.

The police team immediately brought Patel and the girl (Neelam) to the police station. Patel told the police that the girl belongs to her sister's son, Ginni, and his wife Kajal, both residents of Goregaon. She also claimed that the couple had given the girl to her eight days ago for safe keeping. The couple was then subsequently called at the police station and questioned.
"The couple said that in June, they had gone to Delhi to meet their relatives. In the last week of June, they had visited Jantar Mantar and after returning from dinner, at 11pm, they spotted a girl outside a Gurudwara. They then brought the girl with them to Mumbai without making any inquiries and informing local police," said an officer from MRA Marg police station, adding that same day, Neelam was sent to the Dongri children home by the police.

When the MRA Marg police contacted Parliament Street police station in New Delhi, they learned that a kidnapping complaint of a girl named Neelam was registered with them on June 28. The complaint was filed by Sunita Suresh Kumar, 40, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
The MRA Marg and Parliament Street police then exchanged photographs of the girl and it was confirmed that both photographs were of the same girl. "A police team from Delhi will soon be arriving in Mumbai to take custody of the accused. There is a possibility that the accused people could be involved in a begging racket," said the officer.
