An intelligence input sent by the government of Bangladesh to Indian Home Ministry has alarmed the officials at North Block, according to a Times of India report. The report says that  in 2016, over  2,000 Hujl and Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorists crossed the Eastern border and are currently hiding in Assam, West Bengal and Tripura.

The number is almost a three-time jump from figures in 2014 and 2015.  An elaborate nexus of Bangladeshi militants in West Bengal came to light after the unravelling of the Burdwan blast in October 2014, in which two suspected terrorists were killed.

Subsequent probe by NIA  found out that JMB was planning an assassination plot on Shaikh Hasina from their base in West Bengal. A high alert has been sounded in all border states surrounding Bangladesh. Of the 2000 odd jihadis, 720 have entered through West Bengal border. The report claims that JMB secretary Iftadur Rehman is currently in India and even visited New Delhi few days ago.
