Threat perception to BRICS summit has increased: Goa Police

Goa Police on Tuesday said threat perception to the upcoming BRICS summit, to be held in the coastal state, has increased, following the Indian Army's surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

"After the surgical strikes, the intelligence agencies have raised alarm that they (militants) might strike back. After the surgical operation this the is first such big event of international standard due to which the scale of threat perception has increased," Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Gupta told reporters here. "We are prepared keeping in mind this increased threat perception," he added.

BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place in Goa on October 15-16 in which heads of all the member countries will be participating. Gupta said the Goa police held a meeting of its staff in the state headquarters today wherein they were briefed about the security scenario. "These officers are involved in the security arrangements for upcoming BRICS summit. Our force is undergoing security drills which are required to be conducted for the event of such a scale where heads of different countries would be participating," he said.

"There are national and international practises that we follow to provide security cover for such kind of events. They were briefed about the alertness, dress and knowledge for the duty. They were told what they should do and what they should not do," Gupta added.

"We also briefed them about the threat perception and how they should act in any circumstance. We have informed them about the latest threats and what kind of threats they are," he added.
During the event, the official said there will be two level of deployment. "One outside the venue which will be in uniform and another inside the venue in plain clothes," the DIG informed.
