Thousands stranded as rains continue to lash Rajasthan

Mount Abu has received a whopping 1,724 mm rainfall in the past four days with 221 mm of rains recorded on Tuesday alone. Sirohi, Jalore and Pali districts are continuously receiving heavy rainfall for the past 72 hours, causing flood-like situation in many rural areas.

Thousands of people were stranded in several areas of Sirohi and Jalore in Rajasthan as heavy rains continued to lash the region. Angaur Dam in Sirohi was damaged due to overflowing following which the administration issued an alert. Meanwhile, tourists in Mount Abu are facing difficulty in getting transport facilities in and out of the hill station due to heavy downpour.

Mount Abu has received a whopping 1,724 mm rainfall in the past four days with 221 mm of rains recorded on Tuesday alone. Sirohi, Jalore and Pali districts are continuously receiving heavy rainfall for the past 72 hours, causing flood-like situation in many rural areas.

Barmer district also received abnormal rainfall during the last 24 hours. The situation in Sanchore is quite grim after the town is flooded due to heavy rainfall in the area damaging Sanchore lift canal. As per water resource department report, about 75,000 people are affected in Sanchore and due to water overflowing the highway, the area has become completely disconnected from other parts of the region.

The gushing water also damaged Anugaur Dam in Sirohi upto 7 feet. Taking cognisance, the administration has issued an alert in the catchment areas and restricted movement of people living in the nearby areas. In Rajasthan, the continuous rainfall filled 90 dams including 18 on Tuesday alone. 15 dams in Sirohi are filled 88 per cent in which nine dams are overflowing. Sirohi district administration has declared holiday in government schools on Wednesday also in wake of grim situation of flood and waterlogging.

In Jalore, the administration continued rescue operations and rescued 142 persons who were stranded amidst rains created rivers flowing in the street and fields. "Situation in Jalore is under control now. The administration has set up camps. Food packets and relief materials have been distributed to the affected people. 142 persons have been rescued by the NDRF teams," informed Laxmi Narayan Soni, Jalore district collector.

Meanwhile, the MeT department has issued warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in south-western and south-eastern parts of the state, which covers Jodhpur and Udaipur division, during the next 24 hours.
