As the head count of tigers has increased to 2,666 tigers in comparison to 1,700 tigers in 2010, there is one tiger who needs a special mention. Machli, a 17 year old tigress from Ranthambore recently gave birth to nine cubs, four male and five female. It is said that most of the tiger population in Ranthambore and Sariska tiger reserves are her lineage as her female cubs have helped in repopulating.
She is also worth mentioning because of her fighting skills. As most of the reserve now is populated with crocodiles near the water body, it is becoming impossible for tigers to get water. But Machli was recently filmed fighting a 14-foot long crocodile and finally killing it.
