Worst fears of the security establishment came true after third unidentified militant killed by the security forces in the Hakoora-Anantnag encounter on Sunday night, turned out to be the native of Hyderabad who was “radicalized into the Islamic State ideology through social media”.

After digging its heels for three days, police finally confirmed that the third ultra was 26-year old Mohommad Toufeeq of Manuguru in Telangana.

Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted a press release purportedly issued by Telangana police about Toufeeq

“It is learned that Mohommad Toufeeq died in an encounter with security forces on the night of March 11 and 12 in Hakoora of Anantnag district along with two other Kashmiri militants. He was radicalized into the Islamic State ideology through social media and went to Kashmir to participate in terrorist activities of ISIS. He was not wanted in any criminal cases in Telangana State”, reads the statement.

This follows the letter written by senior superintendent of police Anantnag Altaf Khan to Director General of Police Telangana seeking details about the third militant killed in Hakoora.

Al Nasir, the media arm of Zakir Musa led Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind in its bulletin identified the third militant as Mohommad Taufeeq of Hyderabad.  Other two slain were identified as Mohommad Eisa Fazili of Srinagar and Syed Owais of Anantnag.

Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind posted a picture with a caption Mohommad Taufeeq with Rehan Khan (Deputy Ameer Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind). “Mohommad Taufeeq became the first Mujahid in recent history to make Hijrah (migration) to Kashmir and began the work of preaching. His JIhadi names were Sultan Zabul Al Hindi and Abu Zarrr Al Hindi”, reads the Al Nasir bulletin.

Earlier on Monday Islamic State on its Telegram channels had owned the militants and identified the trio as Eisa Fazili alias Abu Yahya, Syed Owais Shafi alias Abu Barra al Kashmiri and Sultan al Hyderabadi alias Abu Zarr al Hindi.

Since no one has come forward to claim his body, the authorities quietly buried him in the graveyard in the Baramulla district.
