Interview with victim’s father

Q) How do you see the proceedings so far?

Ans) I trust the court and investigation being conducted and whoever is the culprit should be punished in the same say. They should be hanged.

Q)  Are you fleeing (the area) because of fear?

Ans) Yes. We are fleeing due to fear and threats. Some people have threatened that they will kill the entire family if we don’t go to some other place.

 Q) Who is threatening you?

Ans) Villagers of Rasana.

Q) Why didn’t you approach the police to give you and your family protection?

Ans) It wasn’t police to give us protection because we live in the jungle, far away from the urban areas at Rasana Village.

 Q) The whole country is asking for justice for your daughter. What do you say?

Ans) We only want justice for our daughter as she was innocent. She had no enmity with anyone. Why did they target my daughter? We want severe punishment for all culprits.

Q: Why was your daughter targeted?

Ans) Some people in the village had problems with her uncle. They wanted us to vacate the place. Earlier, we were told that my daughter was eaten up by a wild animal but after eight days we found her body in the jungle. We were in shock and can’t understand why someone did this to our innocent daughter.

Q: Where are you going now and why are you fleeing in fear?

Ans) We have our cattle and family members can’t put their life in risk. We are going far on the upper hills.

Q: Do you think those who called for a Jammu bandh to save the culprits were in the wrong?

Ans) They will only feel the pain (we feel) when the same thing happens to their own kith and kin. They shouldn’t try to save the culprits, they ought to help pursue justice and give severe punishment to the those who raped and murdered her.

Q: Are you satisfied with the Crime Branch investigation?

Ans: We trust the Crime Branch. Earlier, the investigation agency which was probing the case wasn’t giving true facts. But now we are hopeful of getting justice for our daughter.

Q: How do you feel about getting threats after losing you daughter?

Ans) We still don’t understand why they killed our innocent daughter. She was just eight years old. We want strict action against culprits and justice for our daughter. I gave her to my brother and he was taking care of her. He sent her to the jungle along with horses to feed them.

They kept her in captivity for six days and on the seventh day they killed her. They abandoned in the jungle after killing. They claimed an animal had killed our daughter. We just want all culprits to be hanged, nothing else.

 Q: Why are you afraid?

Ans) They are threatening to kill my second daughter and all other members of our family.

Q: Who threatened you?

Ans) We are in fear, because villages of Rasana Village asked us to vacate this place.

Interview with victim's sister

 Q) What was she like? Did she like to play with you?

Ans) She loved playing with us. She was so clever and very beautiful. Our family is very worried and in deep pain. Kill those people, the same way they killed her. We want justice.

Q: How has the loss of your sister affected your life?

Ans) It’s a huge loss. Now my parents don’t allow us to roam freely. They are always afraid. Even I am afraid to go out alone and my parents fear I might also be killed.

 Q: Has someone threatened you?

Ans) No one has threatened me.

Q: Do you want those responsible for this heinous crime to be brought to justice?

Ans) We want to see dead bodies of all culprits, in the same way, I saw my sister’s dead body.

Q: Were you studying together?

Ans) No. She never went to school. She loved horses and always used to roam along with them in the jungle. They killed her, kept her in the temple, gave her drugs and then threw her dead body in the jungle. We want the same thing should happen to all the culprits.

Q: Did she love your parents?

Ans) She was very caring, she took care of her brothers and sisters, and cousins also. We start crying whenever we see the place her dead body was found. We remember her all the time. We all cry for her. She was a very nice girl.
