The Last Post and fallen heroes: Nation pays tribute to soldiers killed in J&K's Sunday ops

With moist eyes and pride-filled hearts, nation paid homage to the three soldiers who lost their lives while fighting gallantly against the highly-entrenched militants at Kachidoora village in Shopian district on Sunday.

Five militants were eliminated when security forces launched a major counter terrorist operation in the village. Lance Naik Nilesh Singh, Gunner Arvinder Kumar and Sepoy Hetram sustained bullet injuries and were shifted to the hospital where they succumbed.

“Lance Naik Nilesh Singh, Gunner Arvinder Kumar and Sepoy Hetram were provided immediate first aid and evacuated to 92 Base Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries”, said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman at Srinagar.

In a solemn ceremony at 15 corps headquarters at Badami Bagh Cantonment, General Officer Commanding Lieutenant General AK Bhatt, led the nation to pay homage to the three martyrs. In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyrs.

Lance Naik Nilesh Singh, 31,  had joined Army in 2003 and hailed from Village Nagri in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He is survived by his wife and a son. Hailing from Village Sariana in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab Martyr Gunnerr Arvinder Kumar had joined the Army in 2012 and is survived by his parents, a sister and a brother.

Coming from Village Sonigasar Godars in Bikaner, Rajasthan, the martyr Sepoy Hetram, 25, had joined Army in 2013. He is survived by his wife and parents.

“The mortal remains of the martyrs were flown for last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved families of the martyrs and remains committed to their dignity and well being,” Colonel Kalia said.
