The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) doesn’t want financial crunch to affect the operation of Metro trains in city. So it has now started looking for newer ways to generate revenue.
The corporation has sent a proposal to the government seeking ‘advertisement rights’ on Metro sites like Metro trains, stations, pillars etc.
Presently, the JMC has the authority to rent out space to companies for advertisements and collect revenue in the city.
Chairman and managing director of JMRC NC Goel said, “A proposal has been sent to the government. On Metro sites, the JMRC should have the right to rent out the space for advertisements and collect revenue.
The JMRC will decide what kind of advertisements could be placed at Metro sites. The corporation also wants exemption from various taxes during the initial years of Metro operation.
Goel said, “A meeting was held with government officials and we agreed to give some amount to the JMC from the advertisement revenue. There is no need to make any amendment in the Jaipur Municipal Corporation Act. We could arrive at a decision by mutual consensus.”
Goel said that documentation and other formalities have been completed to get a loan of Rs969 crore from Asian Development Bank and an agreement would be signed soon.
The JMRC officials said they have some more options to generate revenue for the Metro train. The JMRC was allotted 23 acres of land by the government.
