A trainee at the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited, Amar Chavan, Ganesh Nanajkar, Dyanand Rokadewad and Chetan Chopade tried to stop the bus at Swargate head quarter of PMPML.
He gave his account to Manasi Saraf:
At around 7.30am to 7.45am, we were going towards the duty point from our headquarters when this bus coming from the wrong side hit the handcart full of bananas and oranges. All the fruits fell upon us. Then, the bus hit two two-wheelers and a Sumo and stopped for a moment.
At that point, I climbed the bus and tried to pull the hand brake. But the fellow in the bus hit me hard and I fell down. Then the bus sped away towards Seven Loves Chowk.
We tried to chase the bus, but it sped away really fast. Later, with the help of our colleagues Vishwanath Gadi, Devidas Waugh and Pradeep Madne we helped the victims and kept the traffic in the area going, he said.
PMPML public relation officer Deepaksingh Pardeshi said, ‘Since all these are trainee drivers, they knew how to control the bus and thus showing the presence of mind, asked the driver to pull the hand brake but to no avail.’
