Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday voiced his support for Salman Khan who has been granted five-year imprisonment in the 2002 hit-and-run case, saying a tragic mishap does not make the Bollywood star any less of a good man.

"My policy is not2comment on judicial verdicts in private matters, but a tragic mishap doesn't make @BeingSalmanKhan any less of a good man," tweeted Tharoor.

Meanwhile, social activist and advocate Abha Singh while commenting on Salman's interim bail said the speed at which the judiciary worked has definitely raised few-eyebrows.

"Let it work for other cases too…The cases, which are pending in the court, and the people are frustrated due to delayed hearing would benefit," she added.

Giving some respite to the Bollywood star, the Bombay High Court yesterday granted two days interim bail to Salman who was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment in the 2002 hit-and-run case.

The sessions court earlier convicted Salman of killing a homeless man and injuring three others who were sleeping on the pavement on the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and harsh, negligent driving.

The court also said that charges pressed against Khan under IPC Section 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing minor injuries), 338 (causing major injuries) and 427 (negligence) have been proved.

The court also observed that the actor was driving without a driving license.

The actor had earlier told the court that he was neither driving th e car nor was he drunk when the accident took place.

The court's verdict will affect the release of Salman's forthcoming releases Bajrangi Bhaijaan with Kareena Kapoor and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo with Sonam Kapoor.
