The July 21 Martyrs' Day rally which provided Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee with a stage, also provided a great opportunity for some youngsters from far-off districts to avail a free trip to the state's capital city — Kolkata. The boys, however, are totally ignorant of the reason behind putting up this massive rally.

Take the example of 16-year-old Biplab Roy from Kaliaganj in North Dinajpore district. "I have come with my grandfather. He is an aged person, but was very excited to come to the rally. My parents said that I should accompany him to ensure his safety. I also thought it would be a nice opportunity to see Kolkata in person. I have had rice, lentils and meat for lunch. Now, after the rally, we will go to the zoo and take a ride in Metro Rail, which I have been wanting for a long time," he said. Asked about what the rally was about, he said, "It is some meeting of the TMC. I don't know what the issue is about."

The story was somewhat similar for 17-year-old Amar Das too who said one of his dream-come-true would be to visit a Big Bazaar and a Spencers' store. "I have heard of these places, but never had the chance to visit. This is a good opportunity where we can travel free of charge on rails and the food is also free," he said. And as it goes, he too had no idea what the day was about.

An even younger, 14-year-old Shahi Mondal was looking for a shelter when a downpour began. A resident of Basirhat in North 24 Parganas, said he thought it would be fun but it did not end up a fun adventure. "This is my first visit to Kolkata. The huge buildings and the crowd is intimidating. It's not that I do not like it at all, but I am not enjoying it as well. I think if I visit the place for some more time, I will get acquainted to it," he said. He, however, was not that far off while guessing the intent of the rally. He said it was for some election.

Dev Naskar, another youngster said he found the statue of Mamata Banerjee very fascinating. "From where I was standing, I could hardly see Mamata. The statues were wonderful replica of our leader and we not only got very close to it while the real Mamata spoke on stage, but clicked selfies with it as well," he said.
