Thane: Film festival to shed light on mental health

Institute of Psychological Health (IPH), Thane, is organising a film festival called Mantarang, which will showcase movies to create awareness about mental health. The two day film festival will be held in the premises of Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School, Thane, on October 8 and 9, 2016.

The two days will see feature films, documentaries and short films being showcased on the subject of mental health for the audiences, followed by a chat session. Some of the subjects of the films that are being showcased at this festival include: effective parenting, impact of social media on our lives, self development. In addition, a movie `Kaasav' (tortoise) on the subject of depression and directed by director-duo Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar will be premiered at this festival.

After the screenings, audiences will get a chance to interact with mental health experts and film personalities associated with the movies shown at the festival. IPH is engaged in the field of mental health since past 27 years. Apart from the film festival IPH also organises the prestigious annual Padma Manohar Phatak DWIJ Puraskar, which is attended by dignitaries of the state. The awards are given to patients of schizophrenia and their families who have overcome the mental disorder.
