Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday said those sponsoring terrorists should be identified and there is a need to disrupt terrorists and their modus operandai. “Terrorists are using systems which are highly technology enabled and transcending international borders. We need to disrupt terrorists and their sponsors. We need to identify nations who are sponsors,” the Army Chief said, adding that there was a need to put some checks and curbs on Internet as well as social media, that terrorist organisations resort to.

Army Chief said that in a democratic country people would not like the curbs, but we have to take a call on whether we want a safe and secure environment and ready to accept these temporary curbs to fight terrorism.

Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue 2018 event in New Delhi, General Rawat warned that militants' access to nuclear warfare could spell disaster for the humanity.

On Kashmir, the army chief claimed that people have realised they can't cede away from India. “People of Kashmir, in general, are getting tired of terrorism. It has not given them what they desired for. You cannot cede away from India. People have realised that. Some have got radicalised… I feel most of them want to join the mainstream,” General Rawat said. He highlighted the importance of deradicalisation campaigns. “If that continues, we will soon be able to put an end to terrorism in Kashmir.”

Army chief had recently highlighted the need to protect deadly weapons from going into hands of terrorists.

"The threat of the use of CBRN (Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) weapons is becoming a reality, particularly from the non-state actors," he said last week.
