Eight days after it agreed to give peace a chance, Pakistan Rangers reneged its promise and resorted to heavy firing and shelling on the Indian forward positions along the International Border, leaving four Border Security Force (BSF) jawans, including two officers dead in Ramgarh sector of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night when Pakistan Rangers fired indiscriminately on BSF outposts in Chamliyal area. Four BSF soldiers were grievously injured in the attack. They were shifted to the Hospital where three including assistant commandant were declared dead. Another injured jawan also succumbed to injuries later.

"Four BSF jawan including an assistant commandment martyred in Chamliyal area. All belong to 62nd battalion of BSF. One jawan has been injured", said a BSF officer of Jammu Frontier.

Martyred jawans have been identified as assistant commandant Jatinder Singh, assistant sub-inspector Ram Niwas, sepoy Hans Raj and Sub Inspector Rajneesh.

BSF immediately swung into action and retaliated in equal measure to silence Pakistani guns. Tension has again gripped the International Border after a brief lull.

The fresh ceasefire violation has come eight days after Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers held a commander-level meeting to end the hostilities and ensure peace on the International Border in Jammu division.

The BSF-Pak Rangers Sector Commander level meeting was held on International border opposite the Border Outpost Octroi on June 5.

The BSF had hoped that the meeting would bring firing-free environment, particularly for villagers residing near the border on both sides. “Commanders on both sides agreed to keep talks on at every level to develop confidence between two border guarding forces," a BSF spokesman had said.
