Temperature drops to season's lowest in Mumbai

Mumbai is finally shivering in chill. Friday was the coldest day this December, with minimum temperatures – from Santacruz – recording 14.1 degree Celcius. While weathermen claim that clear skies and northerly winds are responsible for the chill, the denizens are finding comfort in sweaters, shawls and windcheaters.

On Friday, Colaba the maximum temperature of 31.2 degree Celcius while the minimum recorded was 19.3 degree Celcius, which was lower than that recorded on Thursday which was 20.5 degree. Meanwhile, the maximum temperatures recorded at Santacruz was 33.3 degree Celcius while the minimum recorded was 14.1 degree celcius lower than 15.6 degree celcius minimum recorded on Thursday.

"Mumbai is seeing clear skies, even as the night temperature is dipping further as the winds are turning from north easterly to northerly," said VK Rajeev, forecasting director, IMD Mumbai.

Weather officials had forecast that the temperatures were likely to dip this week, On Monday, Colaba recorded minimum of 23.0 degree Celsius while Santacruz saw the minimum temperature as 18.4 degree Celsius.

Officials informed that in December 1949, temperatures had hit an all-time low of 10.6 degrees Celsius. Last December, the lowest recorded was 12 degrees Celsius.
