Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wants the state to have its own Tirupati temple, a leading daily reports. The rivalry between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has now turned into a temple war.

When Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated to create the new state of Telangana, Andhra retained Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala, the Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Srisailam and Sri Kalahasthi temple in Chittoor. None of the temples in Telangana are as popular with pilgrims as these three temples.

According to the news report, Telangana will now give the temple of Sri Laskhmi Narasimha Swamy or Yadagirigutta a makeover to match the Tirupati temple.

In February, Telangana government created Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority to see the reformation of Sri Laskhmi Narasimha Swamy temple.

Yadagirigutta is about 50 km from Hyderabad and sees about 20,000 to 50,000 pilgrims a year compared to the one lakh visitors of Tirupati temple in a day. Yadagirigutta takes a year to raise what Tirupati temple earns in a day.

The reports says that the temple development authority have spotted eight hillocks near Yadagirigutta temple that they plan to develop as a nine-hills complex so as to compete with the Seshachalam hills of Tirupati. This will create a 'perfect pilgrimage' spread over 2000 acres at Yadadri foothills.
