In Telangana, 2111 liquor licences were issued on Wednesday by a draw of lots. The application fee was Rs. 50,000 each and this alone fetched the government nearly Rs. 155 crore, says a report in Deccan Chronicle.
However, it was not men alone who applied for a liquor licence. Women also applied for wine licences and three women were allotted the licence for wine shops at Banswada, Armoor and Kamareddy for 2015-17 excise year.
Some of the shops in the district received more than 10 applications each. The application fee in this case is non-refundable. Hence, if a person is not allotted a licence they will have to forego the Rs. 50,000.
