The Cyberabad police busted a passports racket and arrested eight people, including four Bangladesh nationals, two from West Bengal. The passports were obtained fraudulently using fake documents and addresses at the Bodhan town of Telangana over a period of time. Two ASIs ( Assistant Sub-Inspectors ) from the town were also arrested in this case, while three others are absconding.

According to Cyberabad police commissioner  VC Sajjannar, as many as 72 passports were obtained fraudulently, among them 19 people have left the country while 49 are yet to be traced.

One of the accused - Parimal Bain - a Bangladesh national had illegally entered India in 2013 and had been subsequently living in Bodhan town in Nizamabad district of Telangana.

What is the case?

On January 25, 2021, the Hyderabad Airport police received a complaint from the immigration officer of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport that on January 24, 2021, three Bangladesh nationals -  Sanjib Dutta, Ramu Das and Mondal Sandip - had approached the departure immigration counter intending to depart to Dubai using fake Indian passports.

During profiling, all the three Bangladesh nationals revealed that they stayed at Bodhan, Nizamabad district in Telangana and with the help of one agent Shahnaj Pail aka Sabuj from West Bengal, got arranged fake Aadhaar cards and helped them to obtain Indian passports fraudulently.

As per the complainant, a case was registered under relevant IPC sections. Upon interrogation of these three accused, the rest of the details of this passports racket emerged.

"Telangana has a unique system of AI-based criminal recognition system using CCTNS data by which 314 passports were blocked in the last two years. Reports are sent to Regional Passport Officer (RPO) Hyderabad for cancellation of these 72 fraudulently obtained passports. Also, FRRO was requested to open Lookout circulars (LOC) against them. We are coordinating with UIDAI Aadhar authority regarding the cancellation of these 72 Aadhar cards and also appraising District Collectors and SPs of various districts of West Bengal regarding these 72 persons. Special teams are formed to trace the remaining passport holders and absconding the accused,'' informed VC Sajjannar, the Cyberabad police commissioner.
