The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has stormed back to power with an even larger margin that its victory in 2014. Counting in some of the key constituencies was rendered a mere academic exercise by lunchtime.

Here is a look at key candidates and constituencies:

K Chandrasekhar Rao - Gajwel
The incumbent Chief Minister is all but sure of victory here. He had defeated Congress's Venteu Pratap Reddy by 19,000 votes in 2014. Now, he seems set to more than double that margin. He was declared winner by 2:30 pm by over 50,000 votes, leaving the remainder of counting purely academic.

KT Rama Rao - Sirsilla
The son of the TRS chief has enjoyed a pretty high profile in government over the past five years. He romped home even before it was time for lunch, when he was at least 70,000 votes ahead of Congress candidate Kondam Karuna Mahender Reddy. This was a significant improvement over the 53,000-vote margin he won the constituency with in 2014.

T Harish Rao - Siddipet
KCR's nephew seems set to repeat the brutal sweep of a victory he effected here in 2014, when his margin of victory alone was close to 62.5 percent of the total votes cast. Siddipet has been as much of a pocket borough as can be - it has stayed with KCR or his family members since 1985. KCR represented the constituency from 1985, and Harish Rao has held the seat since 2001. He served in key irrigation portfolio in the TRS government.

A Revanth Reddy - Kodangal
Telangana Congress working president Revanth Reddy is trailing TRS candidate Patnam Narendra Reddy by a significant margin. The TRS is said to have gone the extra mile to ensure that Revanth Reddy is defeated. The Congress leader was elected on a TDP ticket in 2014 and had afterwards joined the Congress. He was a part of the Telangana Movement.

N Uttam Kumar Reddy - Huzurnagar
The Telangana Congress chief is actually fighting to retain his seat. TRS's Sanampudi Saidireddy was nipping at Uttam Kumar Reddy's heels, trailing by about 4,000 votes at 2 pm.

Nandamuri Suhasini - Kukatpally
This is a prestige battle for the TDP. The incumbent, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, had won here on a TDP ticket in 2014 and then moved to the TRS. The TDP has fielded Nandamuri Suhasini, granddaughter of party founder NT Rama Rao, and pulled all stops to ensure her victory. However, she trailed Rao by a massive 28,000 votes around 2 pm and looks unlikely to bridge that gap.

Akbaruddin Owaisi - Chandrayangutta
The candidates of the BJP, TRS and Congress were in second, third and fourth places respectively. The total votes that all three of them secured was still not even half what Akbaruddin Owaisi has clocked. And this was around 2 pm, about halfway through counting. The younger Owaisi has held this seat since 1999.
