Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav's family has expressed concern over his health, claiming that he has not shown much improvement under the treatment of doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

On Thursday, Lalu's younger son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly and virtually helms the party in the former's absence, met his father at the premier Delhi hospital.

It was a brief meeting, following which Tejashwi expressed concern over his father's health. "I met my father after a long time, for a few minutes in AIIMS-Delhi. But I am worried about his health. I didn't see much improvement," he said. Tejashwi added that "at my father's age, he needs continuous care and monitoring of vital parameters."

Tejashwi, who had met Lalu almost a month ago, when he was being treated at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Ranchi, said the only consolation to him and the people of Bihar is that Lalu Ji is in a better hospital. "We really wish and pray that he may recover to a better state than he was in before," he tweeted.

Lalu, who is serving sentence after being convicted in three fodder scam cases by a special Ranchi court earlier this year, was shifted to AIIMS-Delhi from RIMS-Ranchi on March 29. Lalu's counsel says he suffers from multiple problems including high sugar and creatinine levels. The Jharkhand high court, which is hearing Lalu's bail pleas, has also sought a report on his medical condition from AIIMS-Delhi.

Earlier, Lalu's wife and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi had alleged that the government was plotting to kill her husband. "My husband's condition is deteriorating and I don't know if it is due to illness or medicines are being administered to kill him as his sugar level is rising. How can I trust the government?" she had said.

It is also not sure if Lalu will be able to attend his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav's wedding scheduled in May. Tej's was engaged on April 18 in Lalu's absence.
