Teesta Setalvad, husband, three others booked for usurping money for Gulbarg Society museum

Ahmedabad Police has reportedly filed a case against noted social activist Teesta Setalvad, her husband Javed Anand, Zakia Jafri's son Tanvir Jafri and two others for allegedly usurping Rs 1.51 crore for turning the riot-ravaged Gulbarg Society into a museum.

Crime Branch officials were quoted by the CNN-IBN television channel, as saying that the case has filed against the five persons under Sections 120(B), 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 72 (A) of the Income Tax Act.

Police said that Gulbarg Society residents had told them that they had been giving the money for the so-called museum project from 2007 to 2012.

It was later discovered that Setalvad had placed the money in fixed deposits in her name.

Assistant Commissioner of Police K.N. Patel is investigating the case.

Residents of Gulbarg Society, which came under attack during the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat in 2002 with 68 people losing their lives, had demanded the Rs 1.51 crore back from Setalvad last year after alleging that the money collected in their name had not been used for the purpose stated.
