"Blue Whale is not a game but danger. Once you enter, you can never exit," wrote J Vignesh in a chilling suicide note found at his home in Madurai on Wednesday. The 19-year-old was found hanging in his room by his father in what could be Tamil Nadu's first death linked to the deadly social media game, The Blue Whale Challenge. Police found an image of a whale drawn on Vignesh's the left forearm with 'Blue Whale' written below it

Vignesh was in the second year of BCom at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College. Madurai's Superintendent of Police Manivannan said Vignesh's friends would be questioned to verify whether he had been playing the game. "We are investigating members of a WhatsApp group found in Vignesh's phone," he said. Madurai Collector Veera Raghava Rao said a special cell would be formed to spread awareness in the schools and colleges to youths and parents about the Blue Whale Challenge.

Those playing the game have to complete a series of self-harming challenges over a period of 50 days and win the game by killing themselves, or watch someone close to them die. The game draws in people, mostly children and teenagers, through online chat rooms.
