Highly-placed sources in the party who have access to discussions taking place in the state screening committee in New Delhi claim that newly appointed PCC chief Sachin Pilot is flying out of Ajmer, his current Lok Sabha seat, in the upcoming general elections.
Pilot, according to reports, is keen on contesting the elections from Bhilwara, which is currently represented by his predecessor and former Union minister CP Joshi in the Parliament. It has now been long speculated that Joshi, who is also a Rahul favourite, is most likely to take a sabbatical himself and opt out of the polls. “With Pilot’s name featuring as a single candidate on Bhilwara seat, it is now a foregone conclusion that Joshi is most likely giving up his seat for Pilot,” a senior Congress leader told dna.
In its last meeting on Friday, the screening committee had reportedly discussed fielding Bhanwar Jitendra Singh along with the possible inclusion of his wife Ambika Singh as his replacement on the Alwar seat.
Sources said the preliminary list discussed in the screening committee as only a handful of seats where a single candidate’s name has popped up. Turn to p5
