The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has strengthened its grievance redressal mechanism to help students, teachers and parents who are reaching out to them in need.

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has a special team that monitors grievances and finds solutions to them on a priority basis. According to senior officials in the minister’s office, they receive close to 200 complaints each day.

Since most of the complaints are from retired teachers related to non-payment of dues and are very local in nature they are directed to the local authorities concerned. The ones that concern institutions, and individuals and require the direct intervention of the minister, are taken care of by office in Delhi.

“The redressal rate of complaints from our end is more than 90 per cent. Those who want to reach the minister can either write a direct email or tag him on Twitter. The grievance team checks each and every complaint and the Twitter mentions related to the minister,” said a senior official.

A recent complaint where a student of Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad had complained of excessive hike in fee for existing full-time research scholars, was taken up on a priority basis by the ministry officials. The complaint was addressed to a senior bureaucrat in the ministry, who reverted to the institute and directed them to not hike fee.

The HRD Minister has asked all departments and officials under him, to also resolve issues that come to them on emails, on a priority basis.  Another complaint that was recently resolved was from students of Government College of Technology, Coimbatore who were not getting their stipend.
