A prank of seeking helicopter service for his school, cost a government teacher his job in Jammu and Kashmir. Ajay Singh, a teacher at government High School of Sersundwan in Reasi district was suspended on Sunday for using official letterhead requesting service of two helicopters to ensure full attendance of staff members in the school. The letter was addressed to the chief education officer of Reasi and bears stamp of the head master of the school. However, headmaster had no knowledge about the letter.

"Ajay was suspended for his mischief. He has tendered a written apology accepting that he wrote the letter and forwarded it to one of his friends," chief education officer of Reasi, Ashok Kumar Saniyal told dna over phone. Saniyal, however, did not receive this letter.

The education department reacted on the matter after the letter went viral on social networking sites last weekend.

The letter allegedly written by Ajay Singh states, "Respected Sir, I want to state in your magnanimous presence that this school is at a very remote area. There is lack of transport and communication because of this, staff of this school are not able to reach in time. So, it is requested to your candid self to sanction two helicopters–one for headmaster and one for staff."

Sersudwan is at least four kilometers from Reasi district headquarter. According to Saniyal the school is not short-staffed and around 150-180 students are enrolled there as of now.

"The school is fully functional and there is no problem of absenteeism. Besides, it is located on a roadside, so there is no problem of communication or transportation," Saniyal added.

A two member committee--principal of district institute of education and training and in-charge zonal education officer are conducting the inquiry and would soon submit its report. Headmaster of the school has also recorded his statement and he was seeking police intervention in the matter as well.

The letter went viral on social media last weekend and one of the posts generated around 900 likes, 270 shares and 250 comments. "Further action in the matter will be taken after the committee submits its report," Saniyal said.
