Assam appears to be heading for a leadership change after Congress state unit chief Bhubaneswar Kalita said on Saturday that chances of chief minister Tarun Gogoi being replaced were “50-50”. Gogoi himself neither confirmed nor denied reports that he would be replaced.
“I won't say yes, I won’t say no,” said Gogoi. “How can I say that when the decision rests on the (party) high command?” Gogoi, who has been the chief minister for the last 13 years, has been facing dissidence for over two years now. Senior Congress leader Malikarjun Kharge is expected to visit Guwahati on Monday to meet both the sides.
