A first standard student at the Panchayat Union Primary school in Budalur suffered a dislocated shoulder allegedly because her teacher twisted her arm as punishment.

A report in The New Indian Express states that V Devi, daughter of Mariammal, didn’t turn up for class on Monday as she was unwell. When she went to school on Tuesday her class teacher, Babu, allegedly twisted her arm asking why she was absent. She’s said to have been the crying the whole day in unbearable pain. 

The girl’s mother found her crying at home and took her to the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital the next day as her shoulder was swollen. The young girl was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder joint.

Mariammal told the media that the teacher also hit the child on her head. The police are investigating. The daily reports that G Renganathan, district elementary educational officer has said that the assistant elementary educational officer, Budalur, has conducted an inquiry into the incident. It has now been reported to the Director of School Education. They would take action against the teacher.
