Propaganda Secretary VC Chandrakumar and 10 district secretaries have asked Vijayakanth to rethink the alliance with the PWF.
The latest news doing the rounds of the political corridors in Chennai is that DMDK could be heading for a split. Actor-politician Vijayakanth’s Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has been seeing an exodus from his party to the DMK and AIADMK in recent weeks. On Saturday, Deputy Secretary of DMDK’s Farmers Wing from Cuddalore VC Shanmugam and four others from the district joined the DMK.
Now, news is that Propaganda Secretary VC Chandrakumar and 10 district secretaries have given an ultimatum to Vijayakanth stating that he rethink the alliance with the PWF and join hands with DMK instead. Chandrakumar has given the DMDK leader time till tomorrow to make his decision on having a meeting with them to discuss this issue, else he and the 10 others plan to quit the party and join the DMK.
Vijayakanth's wife Premalatha is seen as one of the key players in the DMDK. At a public rally on Saturday night, she stated “Though we are in alliance with the People’s Welfare Alliance, our main alliance is with the public." She also added that the party has now become an alternative to the DMK and AIADMK.
Some of the key issues she spoke about at the rally included reducing the price of petrol and diesel and putting an end to sand mining and theft. She also spoke about reviving villages, government bonds, water management and more.
However, people within the DMDK do not seem happy with the alliance with the PWF. Chandrakumar has stated that he and the others have not joined the DMK, but have asked Vijayakanth to rethink the PWF alliance. It now remains to be seen what decision Vijayakanth will take as this could make or break his party in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.
